Prepare and Cook
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, pork sausage, crushed crackers, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and smoked paprika.
- Mix the ingredients gently by hand until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat to ensure a tender texture.
- Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into patties about 1-inch thick, pressing a small indentation in the center of each.
- Heat a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat and lightly grease with oil or butter if desired.
- Place the patties in the hot skillet and sear for 4–5 minutes per side until the internal temperature reaches 160°F.
- During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and cover the skillet with a lid to melt.
- Spread butter on the cut sides of the buns and toast them in a separate pan until golden brown and warm.
- Place the cheesy patties on the toasted buns and serve immediately with your favorite toppings.
Notes
For the best results, use buttery round crackers to keep the patties moist and flavorful. Store leftover cooked patties in an airtight container for up to 3 days and reheat in a skillet over low heat.
